I-75 Crash Disrupts Traffic for Several Hours

Police Tape | Accident | Crime

A trailer separated from the tractor trailer that was towing it, FHP troopers said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A single-vehicle crash blocked traffic on southbound I-75 for several hours Friday (May 3) night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

No one was injured in the crash, which took place about 9:35 p.m. on I-75 south of State Road 50 approaching the 295 milepost in Hernando County.

Troopers said a 2000 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer was headed south in the outside lane of I-75 when the trailer separated from the cab. The driver managed to stop the cab on the shoulder of the road but the trailer continued traveling south for about 166 feet when it rotated and overturned. The overturned trailer kept going for an additional 215 feet until it crashed into a guardrail and came to a final rest blocking all lanes of traffic for several hours.
