The crash between two commercial trucks was caused when one driver reached down for a drink, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A driver was cited after a traffic crash between two commercial trucks closed one lane of I-75 for two hours this morning (June 20), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Michael A. White, 33, of Zephyrhills, was cited for careless driving. White suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The crash happened about 5:59 a.m. on southbound I-75 north of State Road 574 (Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard).

White was driving a 2018 Mac truck in the center lane behind a 2000 International semi-tractor-trailer driven by Ismael M. Roman, 65, of Dade City. Troopers said White became distracted when he reached down for a drink. As a result, the Mack truck rear-ended the tractor-trailer.

After the impact, both trucks came to rest in the outside lane, which remained closed until 8:14 a.m.
