PASCO COUNTY – A Hudson man died in a traffic crash Saturday that closed several lanes of U.S. 19 for four hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Derek Fingerle, 30, of Hudson, died at the scene. The other driver, Michael Thienes, 67, of Hudson, was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point in serious condition.

The crash happened about 8:21 p.m. on U.S. 19 north of Denton Avenue in Pasco County.

Troopers said Thienes, who was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia, was exiting a driveway at 15941 U.S. 19. He traveled across U.S. 19 and entered the path of the 2003 Yamaha motorcycle that Mr. Fingerle was riding in the center southbound lane on U.S. 19.

The front of the motorcycle collided with the left side of the SUV, throwing Mr. Fingerle from the bike. He was wearing a helmet.
