Hit-and-Run Driver Collides with Pedestrian Twice, FHP Says
The pedestrian was seriously injured in the crash on State Road 574, FHP troopers said.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Seffner man was seriously injured Thursday (Feb. 7) when a hit-and-run driver hit him twice, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Herbert Wilson McCullough, 46, of Seffner, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition.
The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 574 and Laura Street in Hillsborough County.
Troopers said the unknown vehicle was headed south on Laura Street when it failed to stop for a posted stop sign, turned right onto SR 574 and collided with McCullough who was walking across SR 574.
The unknown vehicle stopped, reversed and hit McCullough a second time. It then fled the scene. It was last seen traveling west on SR 574.
The vehicle was described as a red 1990s model Dodge 1500 series pickup truck with a large, horizontal black stripe running down the sides of the vehicle. The truck had significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and no tag light.

Troopers said a person of interest has been developed in this case. The FHP is searching for Darryl Watkins with a date of birth of Oct. 11, 1986. Anyone with information is again asked to contact the FHP at (813) 558-1800 or *347.
