Hillsborough Sheriff, FHP Target Drunk Drivers

DUI | Drunk Driving | Traffic

The agencies will concentrate on east Hillsborough County.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol will join today (Dec. 17) for a multi-agency DUI enforcement saturation within Hillsborough County.

Hillsborough County ranked as one of the top five counties in the state of Florida for alcohol-related fatalities and traffic crashes for the consecutive years of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. In an effort to continue to reduce the number of crashes involving impaired drivers, roadways that have a significant number of DUI and DUI-related incidents will be the focus of this saturation.

This saturation will take place within east Hillsborough County; specifically, the areas of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office District II and District IV. District II covers about 259 square miles of northeastern Hillsborough. District IV is located in the Ruskin area.

The FHP will also conduct enforcement efforts on state roads located within the operation area. The mission is to make the roadways safer for those traveling on them this holiday weekend by dedicating extra resources focused on stopping impaired and intoxicated drivers.
