Hillsborough Firefighter Injured in Fall from Fire Truck

The truck was on its way to an emergency call, Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said.

SUN CITY CENTER – A firefighter was seriously injured when he fell from the fire truck while on his way to an emergency call, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Steven Dowd, 46, was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital when he remained late Wednesday (July 11) afternoon for evaluation. He was transported with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The two other firefighters were not injured.

The injury happened just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 10). A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue engine was traveling north leaving Station 28, located at 4551 Sun City Center Blvd. As the fire engine turned left onto Sun City Center Boulevard, Dowd, who was in the right front seat, fell out of the truck and onto the roadway.
