Hillsborough Deputy Pulls Woman from Submerged Car
She lost control of her car when she was cut off by another driver, FHP troopers said.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputy pulled a woman to safety when her car overturned in a deep, water-filled ditch off I-4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The driver, Amanda Nicole Antonio, 20, of Seffner, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries. She had not been drinking.
The name of the deputy who rescued her was not immediately available.
The crash happened about 3:52 this morning (Jan. 1) on eastbound I-4 at the U.S. 301 exit ramp in Hillsborough County.
Troopers said Antonio was driving a 2008 Toyota Scion east on I-4 at the U.S. 301 exit ramp when she lost control after being cut off by an unknown vehicle. The Toyota left the roadway, traveled onto the highway shoulder and overturned in a deep, water-filled ditch.
The Toyota sank and a Hillsborough deputy pulled Antonio from the car, according to troopers.
