The other driver suffered minor injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Spring Hill man died this morning (April 10) of injuries he received in a head-on traffic crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

James Pierce, 66, died at Oak Hill Hospital where he was taken after the crash. Trevor Caggliano, 22, the other driver, was taken to Spring Hill Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Both are from Spring Hill. Neither was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The crash happened about 12:03 a.m. on Mariner Boulevard near Auburndale Street. Troopers said Mr. Pierce was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt north on Mariner when, for an unknown reason, he traveled into the southbound lane and collided head on with a 2001 Nissan Sentra driven by Caggliano. The crash does not appear to be alcohol related.
