The driver and his passenger died in a collision with a garbage truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HERNANDO COUNTY – Two people from Lecanto died Friday (July 22) when their pickup collided with a garbage truck and burst into flames, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

John J. Stevenson, 25, and Donna M. Adams, 24, both of Lecanto, died at the scene.

The crash happened about 12:02 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 98 and County Road 491. Troopers said Mr. Stevenson was driving a 1999 Chevrolate pickup truck south on CR 491. When he reached the intersection, Mr. Stevenson drove in front of a 2007 Mack truck driven by Vincent B. Iverson, 50, of Land O Lakes. The two collided, FHP troopers said.

After the impact, the pickup burst into flames. The garbage truck rolled onto its right side. Iverson received minor injuries.
