The Florida Highway Patrol will have troopers out in force in Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Polk counties looking for drunken drivers.

TAMPA BAY – Florida Highway Patrol troopers will be out in force this weekend looking for drunken drivers.

The FHP wolf pack will be active in Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando and Polk counties from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting tonight (Sept. 1) and ending Monday (Sept. 4). The wolf pack operation will focus on State Road 589 (Suncoast Parkway and Veterans Expressway), SR-568 (Veterans Expressway), and SR-570 (Polk Parkway).

The goal of the FHP wolf pack is to promote safety for motorists and pedestrians on public highways and rights-of-way in Florida and provide a deterrent for those who violate laws.

The FHP reminds drivers who drink to avoid driving and to plan in advance for events where alcoholic beverages are consumed by using designated drivers, taxi or ride-sharing services, and hosting events where driving is not necessary. Should motorists encounter impaired drivers they are urged to call *FHP (*347).

In related news, the Pinellas County Sheriff and the Clearwater, Gulfport, St. Petersburg, and Tarpon Springs police departments will also have a wolf pack targeting drunken drivers this weekend. The Pinellas wolf pack will be active from 5 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 3) through 3 a.m. Monday.
