PASCO COUNTY – A Tampa woman was charged with DUI manslaughter after the death of the driver of another vehicle in a traffic crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Zachary Scott Kane, 44, of Land o’ Lakes, was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with critical injuries after Friday’s (April 7) crash. He died Saturday from his injuries, troopers said. Diane Farmer, 69, of Tampa, the driver of a third vehicle in the crash, received minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Hannah Michele Patrick, 24, of Tampa, had been charged with DUI-serious bodily injury, driving while license suspended-serious bodily injury, an improper U-turn and no proof of insurance, the FHP said. After Mr. Kane’s death, the charges were upgraded to DUI-manslaughter and driving while license suspended-involving a death.

The crash happened about 5:50 p.m. Friday (April 7) at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Morgan Road in Pasco County. Troopers said Patrick, who was northbound on U.S. 41, tried to make a U-turn at the intersection. The 2009 Kia Spectra she was driving traveled into the path of the 2015 Honda Shadow driven by Mr. Kane which was southbound on U.S. 41. After the Kia and Honda collided, the Kia hit a curb, then bounced off and hit the 2017 Chevrolet Impala driven by  Farmer, which was stopped in the northbound left turn lane of U.S. 41.
