The driver of a semi tractor-trailer fled after causing a crash that left a car in flames, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. There were no injuries.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a semi tractor-trailer truck that hit a car Tuesday (Sept. 19) on northbound I-75.

No one was injured in the crash, but one of the vehicles involved burst into flames and was destroyed.

The crash happened about 2:10 p.m. on northbound I-75 north of Fletcher Avenue. Troopers said the unknown semi, which was described as a tractor with a dump trailer combination, was in the center inside lane. The driver changed to the outside lane and collided with the left side of a 2014 Infiniti Q50 driven by Ernesto Mena Corzo, 20, of Seffner.

The impact pushed the Infiniti into the path of a 1994 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer driven by Miguel Angel Rosario, 37, of Lakeland. The Infiniti hit the left side of Rosario’s semi. That impact pushed the Infinit to the inside paved shoulder where the car stopped and immediately caught on fire, troopers said.

Both trucks stopped on the outside shoulder. The unknown driver got out of his truck, looked at the crash scene and fled, troopers said.

The truck was described as white with dark fenders towing a silver dump trailer. The driver was described as a heavy-set man wearing overalls, a green reflective vest and dark pants. Anyone with any information regarding the crash is asked to contact the FHP by calling *FHP or (813) 631-4020.
