The driver fled on foot after the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY- The Florida Highway Patrol charged a Largo man with DUI after a single-car crash this morning (March 11).

Nathaniel Combs, 23, of Largo, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, DUI with property damage and careless driving. Neither he nor his passenger was injured.

The crash happened around 12:34 a.m. on 62nd Avenue N at Westchester Boulevard. Troopers said Combs was driving a 2015 BMW 320i east on 62nd Avenue at a high rate of speed. The BMW failed to negotiate a sharp curve at Westchester. The BMW started spinning and hit a fence, which punctured the car’s gas tank, causing it to burst into flames. Combs and his passenger left on foot, troopers said, but were caught.
