FHP Accuses Holiday Man of Hit and Run

Jamie Mendes | Florida Highway Patrol | Arrests

The other two drivers received minor injuries in the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PASCO COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Holiday man and charged him with leaving the scene of a traffic crash that injured two other drivers.

Jamie Mendes, 24, of Holiday, was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury and one count of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, according to the FHP and Pasco County Jail records. Pasco jail records show Mendes has an address in New Bedford, MA.

Matthew Britto, 24, and Francesco Mastrangelo, 16, the other two drivers in the three-vehicle crash, were taken to North Bay Hospital. Both are from Holiday.

Troopers said the crash happened about 5:02 p.m. Thursday (April 20) at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Panorama Drive. Mendes was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus south on U.S. 19 when he turned left onto Panorama into the path of a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Britto. The impact between the two caused the SUV to spin. The SUV hit a 2016 Toyota Prius driven by Mastrangelo, which was at a stop sign on Panorama.

After the crash, troopers said Mendes drove away, but was later found and arrested. Troopers said it is unclear if alcohol was involved in the crash.
