HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Chenxin Jing, 25, an exchange student from China died Monday (May 15) when she was hit by a car while crossing the street, the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened about 8:15 p.m. on N 50th Street about 100 feet north of Bordeaux Village Place. Deputies said Ms. Jing had activated the yellow caution lights before stepping into the roadway.

Joshua Alston Harriger, 21, was driving his 2002 Nissan Altima northbound on 50th Street at about 40 mph when he saw the yellow lights activate and failed to yield to Ms. Jing, deputies said. He struck her within the crosswalk with the right front of the Nissan.

Harriger agreed to a blood draw, but there is no evidence alcohol contributed to the crash. Deputies said charges are pending.
