The pupil had just gotten off a school bus and was on the sidewalk when the crash happened, the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – An elementary school pupil was injured Monday (Feb. 13) after he got off his school bus, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Diamies Muniz, 10, was taken to Tampa General Hospital. It is unclear how serious his injuries were.

Rico Nicole Vickers, 19, the driver of the motorcycle, was going to go to the hospital with family members for bruising to her face and head. Deputies said she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. They said Vickers was charged with failing to stop for an unloading school bus, driving a vehicle on the sidewalk, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and driving while license suspended or revoked with knowledge.

The crash happened about 2:15 p.m. on 15th Street N in front of Shadow Pines Apts. north of 122nd Avenue E where a Hillsborough County school bus was unloading pupils from Shaw Elementary School. Deputies said Diamies got out of the school bus onto the west sidewalk of 15th Street and was struck by a 80cc Honda motorcycle that Vickers was driving on the sidewalk. Vickers, who was passing the stopped school bus on the sidewalk, tried to avoid hitting Diamies by laying the motorcycle down, but struck him in the legs, deputies said.
