The crash closed the northbound Skyway for three hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – The northbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge were closed for a bit more than three hours Tuesday (Jan. 10) to give workers a chance to clear dirt from an overturned dump truck.

Juan Antonio Rico, 62, of St. Petersburg, the driver of the dump truck, received a ticket for careless driving, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The driver of the other vehicle, Richard Eugene Monroe, 80, of Bradenton, received minor injuries.

The crash happened about 10:56 a.m. at the 11 mile marker. Monroe had parked his 2014 Ford F-150 on the outside shoulder because it had a flat tire. Troopers said Rico, who was driving a 2005 Mack dump truck, traveled into the emergency lane and rear-ended the Ford. After the crash, the dump truck overturned and spilled dirt on the roadway, which remained closed until about 2:15 p.m.
