Both were thrown from a truck, FHP troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A driver and his passenger were seriously injured Wednesday (May 22) in a single-vehicle crash on I-4, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Myron Jynaro Wimbley, 33, of Tampa, and Shaderiah Ayana Thompson, 19, of Land O’ Lakes, were both taken to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition. Neither one was wearing a seat belt, troopers said. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 3:04 a.m. on westbound I-4 near the 12 milepost in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Wimbley was driving a 2018 Isuzu box truck when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle. The Isuzu left the roadway and collided with a barrier wall separating the highway from the entrance to the Florida Department of Transportation scale house.

Both Wimbley and Thompson were thrown from the truck.

Charges are pending, troopers said.
