HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Two people from Lakeland were seriously injured Thursday (July 20) in a single-car crash in Hillsborough County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Eric Ortiz, 36, and Arlene Ortiz, 32, were taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened about 4 p.m. on northbound I-75 north of Fletcher Avenue. Troopers said Eric Ortiz lost control of the 2008 Honda Civic he was driving. The Honda left the road and went into the median where it collided with several small trees, spun, and overturned onto its left side. It is unclear why Ortiz lost control of the car.
