HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Jacksonville man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a traffic crash Sunday (Nov. 27), the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Clyde Simpson, 67, of Jacksonville, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. Stanley Monroe, III, 36, of Tampa, the driver of the other car, received minor injuries but was not hospitalized, troopers said.

Troopers said they cited Monroe for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

The crash happened about 5:13 p.m. on U.S. 301 at the intersection of Delaney Creek Boulevard. Troopers said Monroe was driving a 2013 Mercedes E350 southbound on U.S. 301. Simpson was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta northbound on U.S. 301 approaching the intersection. Troopers said the Mercedes turned left into the path of the Volkswagen, which hit the right rear of the Mercedes.
