He was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his SUV when it overturned, FHP troopers said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Venice man died Monday (March 25) when he was thrown from his SUV during a crash on State Road 50, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The identity of the man, a 75-year-old Venice resident, was withheld until his next of kin are notified. He died at the scene. Both passengers in his SUV were taken to Advent Health Dade City in serious condition: Martha Elizabeth Kirwan, 73, of Venice, and Ann Reta Peddle, 77, of St. Petersburg. Both Kirwan and Peddle were wearing seat belts.

The other driver, Dalton Dean Tschoepe, 26, of Dade City, was not injured.

The crash happened about 12:14 p.m. on SR 50 east of U.S. 301 in Hernando County.

Troopers said Tschoepe was driving a 2008 Ford Edge west on SR 50 approaching U.S. 301 when he overtook and collided with the 2008 Toyota Rav4 that the unnamed man was driving. The crash propelled the Toyota off the road to the southwest where it overturned. The driver was thrown out of the Toyota when it overturned.

Alcohol was not a factor, troopers said. Charges are pending.
