Driver Dies from Single-Car Crash, St. Petersburg Police Say

He was not wearing a seat belt and was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

ST. PETERSBURG – The driver of a station wagon died this morning (Aug. 12) after he left the road and hit a tree, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

The name of the 28-year-old man is being withheld until his next of kin are notified.

The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Park Street N. Police said a 2011 Chevrolet HHR was southbound on Park at a point where the roadway curves to the east. The driver failed to negotiate the curve.

The Chevrolet jumped the west curb, left the roadway and the front of the Chevrolet struck a large tree. Police said the driver was not wearing his seat belt and was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash. There were no other people or vehicles involved in the crash.

The driver was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was pronounced dead.
