HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A man died Wednesday (Nov. 23) when the car he was driving was rear-ended by a pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Robert W. Bodycomb, 84, of North Ft Myers, died at the scene. His passenger, Peter Pazumas-Bodycomb, 71, also of North Ft. Myers, received minor injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s South Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, Steven Mark Brierley, 42, of Brooksville, also received minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital, the FHP said.

The crash happened about 1:48 p.m. on I-275 at mile marker 256. Mr. Bodycomb was driving a 2016 Toyota Prius north on I-275. Brierley was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck north on I-275 behind the Prius. The Prius slowed for congestion, but the Ford did not, troopers said.

The Ford rear-ended the Prius, which entered the grass median, spun and collided with a guardrail.
