Driver Dies in Head-On Crash in Hillsborough

The driver was trying to pass other vehicles when the crash happened, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Zephyrhills man died this morning (March 8) in a head-on collision in Hillsborough County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Raul A. Quiles O’Ferral, 24, died at the scene. Ricardo L. Robinson, 40, of Tampa, the other driver, was taken to Florida Hospital of Tampa with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 7:26 a.m. on U.S. 301 south of Muddy Water Trail. The Zephyrhills man was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry south on 301. He was passing other vehicles by using the northbound traffic lane when he collided with the 2012 International truck that Robinson was driving. Troopers said the Camry spun after the impact and came to rest on the east shoulder of the roadway.
