ST. PETERSBURG – A driver died Thursday (Oct. 18) from injuries he suffered in a traffic crash at a 34th Street intersection, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Anthony Andrew Repeta, 84, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was taken after the crash.

The crash happened about 6:18 p.m. at the intersection of 34th Street S and 30th Avenue in St. Petersburg.

Police said Mr. Repeta was driving a 2008 Toyota Prius west on 30th Avenue. He failed to yield from a stop sign and drove across 34th Street South. He crossed into the path of a northbound 2004 Ford Taurus driven by Robert Darnell Jefferson, 36.

Jefferson unsuccessfully tried to avoid Mr. Repeta, but the front of the Taurus struck the driver’s door of the Prius.

Impairment was not a factor for either driver and there are no pending criminal charges, officers said.
