The bus was carrying 20 Springstead High School students. One received minor injuries.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A Trilby man was critically injured and a high school student suffered minor injuries Friday when the car the man was driving hit a Hernando County school bus, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Donald Mark Dornfelt, 53, of Trilby, was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point with critical injuries. The name of the injured student was not available. It is unclear if the student was taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 10:25 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 50/Cortez Boulevard and McKethan Road. Troopers said Dornfelt was driving a 2000 Lincoln west on SR 50 when he tried to turn left onto McKethan. The left turn took him into the path of a 2007 Hernando County school bus driven by Justin F. Brennan, 71, of Spring Hill, which was on CR 50. Both vehicles had a green light.

The Lincoln crashed into the school bus, troopers said. The bus had 20 students from Springstead High School.
