Driver Cited After Head-On Crash

He was in the wrong lane because he was passing stopped vehicles, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A New Port Richey man was cited after a head-on crash on State Road 51, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Dawid Bator, 27, of New Port Richey, was cited for careless driving, having an expired tag, and no insurance. He suffered minor injuries in the crash, but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 7:53 a.m. Wednesday (June 20) on SR 52 west of U.S. 41 in Pasco County.

Bator was driving a 2005 Volvo east on SR 52 when he tried to pass other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection. He began traveling east in the westbound lane, troopers said.

At the same time,. John Morgan Weeks III, 68, of Brooksville, was driving a 1992 Kenworth dump truck west in the westbound lane of SR 52. Weeks tried to steer onto the shoulder to avoid a crash, but was unsuccessful.

The Volvo hit the dump truck nearly head on, causing the truck to overturn, troopers said. Weeks was not injured.
