BRANDON – A Dover man died Friday (April 5) in a fiery one-vehicle crash on Lakewood Drive in Brandon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jeffrey Mark Scott, 53, of Dover, died at the scene. Deputies said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, but a determination is awaiting toxicology results.

The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. on Lakewood Drive in Brandon just north of the railroad tracks at White Dove Court.

Deputies said Mr. Scott was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty north on Lakewood Drive in Brandon when he went off of the east side of the roadway and over-corrected to the left. The Jeep crossed both lanes of traffic
and struck a Frontier Communications pole and a tree. The Jeep caught fire.

HIllsborough County Fire Rescue responded, and once the fire was put out, they confirmed Mr. Scott was in the Jeep.

The roadway was closed for pole repair until about 7 a.m.
