Two Die, Three Seriously Injured in State Road 54 Crash

Alcohol was a factor in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – Two women died and three people were seriously injured early this morning (July 29) in a rear-end crash on State Road 54, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Hannah Marie Nelson, 24, of Dade City, one of the drivers,. and Ashley Aaron Plummer, 24, of Zephyrhills, one of Ms. Nelson’s passengers, died at the scene. The other two passengers in her car, Jade MacKinzie Bruce, 21, and Maddison Paige Bruce, 17, both of Zephyrhills, and the driver of the other car, Jonathan Ryan Haynes, 36, of Zephyrhills, were all taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

Ms. Nelson, Ms. Plummer and Haynes were not using seat belts. Haynes had been drinking, troopers said.

The crash happened about 2:07 a.m. on SR 54 approaching Evans Street in Pasco County.

Troopers said Haynes was driving a 2011 Infinity G37 west on SR 54 at a high rate of speed. The Infinity overtook the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue that Ms. Nelson was driving. The Infinity rear ended the Oldsmobile.

After the impact, the Oldsmobile left the roadway to the southwest and overturned. The Infinity left the roadway to the northwest and also overturned.
