One driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Hillsborough sheriff.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Two died and another was seriously injured in a Memorial Day (May 30) crash that involved four vehicle, Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said.

Richard D. Crete, 54, and his wife Tanya, 58, of Riverview, died at local hospitals of their injuries, deputies said. Sanita Sookdeo, 48, of Dover, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

Deputies cautioned that they are still investigating the crash and the facts could change. But, as they understand the situation, it happened about 11:35 a.m. Sookdeo was driving her 2007 GMC Denali south on Parsons Avenue “at a high rate of speed.” Mr. and Mrs. Crete were ahead of her traveling about 40 mph to 45 mph in their 2003 Acura TL. Sookdeo rear-ended the Cretes, which, deputies said, pushed the Acura into oncoming traffic where it brush the right rear of a 2006 Toyota Highlander driven by Douglas E. Teten, 62, of Brandon, that was headed north on Parsons. The Acura came to rest on the east shoulder of the road facing south with “severe rear crush damage,” according to deputies.

The Denali ramped over the Acura and continued southeast for about 530 feet where it hit an embankment and went airborne again over Jersey Avenue, deputies said. The Denali hit a tree on the southeast corner of Jersey and Parsons avenues and flipped over. Debris from the Denali hit a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Eliot Acosta, 35, of Brandon.

Mrs. Crete was taken to Brandon Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Mr. Crete was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sookdeo was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. The occupants of the Highlander and the Corolla were not injured.

Deputies said that, at this time, neither alcohol nor drugs are expected to be a factor. Charges are pending, they said.
