Two Die, Child Critically Injured in Gunn Highway Crash
The crash temporarily closed Gunn Highway,
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Two drivers were killed and a child was critically injured Saturday (Dec. 16) in a head-on crash on Gunn Highway, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Terry Lee Bronschidle, 70, of Tampa, and Spencer Theodore Schertt-Barnes, 25, of Odessa, died at the scene. Callie Fowler, 8, of Odessa, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. All were restrained at the time of the crash, deputies said.
The crash happened about 12:46 p.m. on Gunn Highway north of Wayne Road. Deputies said Mr. Bronschidle was driving a 2017 red Chevy Traverse southbound on Gunn when, for an unknown reason, he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the 1999 Ford Ranger that Mr. Schertt-Barnes was driving.
Gunn was closed for several hours while deputies investigated the crash.
