The driver lost control of the car, FHP troopers said.

EAST LAKE – A New Port Richey man died Sunday (Jan. 27) from injuries he suffered in a one-car crash on East Lake Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Ruel Depante Ramos, 37, of New Port Richey, a passenger in the car, died at the Medical Center of Bayonet Point where he was taken after the crash. Kyle Stevens Birdyshaw, 25, of New Port Richey, the driver,was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital with serious injuries. It is unknown if the crash was alcohol related, troopers said.

The crash happened about 4:47 a.m. on East Lake Road near Posado Drive in Pinellas County.

Troopers said Birdyshaw was driving a 2002 Ford Focus north on East Lake Road when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car. The car left the road and Birdyshaw over-corrected back across the roadway and entered the median where the car rotated, collided with a light pole and then hit a tree.
