One Dead, Four Seriously Injured in Wrong-Way Crash

The Florida Highway Patrol said alcohol was a factor in the head-on crash.

PINELLAS COUNTY – A St. Petersburg woman is dead and four other people are in serious condition after a head-on, wrong-way crash late Sunday (March 25) night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Ambreuna L. Brown, 26, of St. Petersburg, died of her injuries at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she was taken after the crash. The FHP said she was not wearing a seat belt and had been drinking before the crash.

Ryan Matthews, 18, of St. Petersburg, the driver of the other car, was taken to Bayfront in serious condition. Two of his passengers, Vivian Antenucci, 16, of Seminole, and Shelly Melendez Matos, 17, of Largo, were taken to Johns Hopkins All Childrens Hospital in serious condition. His third passenger, Jacob Hutfilz, of Palm Harbor, was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital in serious condition.

Troopers said the crash happened about 11:23 p.m. in the southbound lanes of State Road 693 (66th Street N) south of 126th Avenue N.

Ms. Brown was driving a 2014 Hyundai Sonata south on SR 693, but, troopers said, that she turned north at the intersection of 118th Avenue N but remained in the southbound lanes. Matthews was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry south in the southbound lanes of SR 693. As the Hyundai traveled north in the southbound lanes, it hit the Toyota head on.
