A van split into two pieces upon impact, according to Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – One man died and three others were injured in a traffic crash this morning (July 29), the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office said.

Emiliano Lopez Hernandez, 33, of Plant City, died at the scene. Two passengers in the 2001 Chevrolet Venture van he was driving were taken to Tampa General and Lakeland Regional hospitals with serious injuries. Their names were not available. The driver of the other vehicle, Sean Lennard McLendon, 22, also of Plant City, was taken to Tampa General with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened about 5:45 a.m. at the intersection of Trapnell and Pippin roads. Deputies said Mr. Hernandez was westbound on Trapnell when he made a left turn towards Pippin, turning in front of and violating the right of way of the 2010 Honda Accord that McLendon was driving.

McLendon, who was driving about 50-55 mph, was unable to stop and struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet van. At impact, the rusted frame of the Chevrolet van separated and
the vehicle split into two individual pieces, deputies said.

Mr. Henandez was found on the roadway. Deputies said it’s unknown if the passengers in the Chevrolet were ejected or taken out of the van by passersby. Alcohol is not suspected in the crash.
