One Dead, Two Critically Injured in Lumsden Road Crash

A car was hit when it turned into the path of a Hummer, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

BRANDON – A Gibsonton woman was killed and two others suffered life-threatening injuries in a traffic crash on Lumsden Road in Brandon on Friday (March 2), the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Saijah I. Coleman, 22, of Gibsonton, died at the scene. Jayson Upshaw, Jr., 20, of Gibsonton, and Dudley Bryant IV, 22, of Tampa, were taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Robert A. Culhane, 50, of Valrico, was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened about 6:40 p.m. in front of the La Viva Shopping Plaza, 728 W Lumsden Road in Brandon. Deputies said a Nissan Altima was being driven east on LUmsden in the left turn lane in front of the shopping center. Deputies said they believe Upshaw was driving. Culhane was driving the Hummer west on Lumsden in the center lane.

Deputies said the Nissan turned in front of the Hummer, which struck the car on the passenger side. The Hummer rotated clockwise and overturned onto the Nissan and came to rest on its roof. The Nissan sustained severe crush damage to the passenger side where Ms. Coleman had been sitting. Culhane was able to climb out of the Hummer.
