One Dead After Car Crashes into Bus Stop Bench

The man and his adult grandson were sitting at the bus stop when they were hit.

ST. PETERSBURG – One man died and another was injured Sunday (Nov. 26) after a car hit them while they were sitting on a bus stop bench, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Santiago Carcamo, 83, died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was taken after the crash. His grandson, Gabriel Oliva, 35, suffered broken bones but is expected to recover.

The crash happened about 12:50 p.m. Officers said Louise Pequeno, 78, turned right out of Disston Plaza to head north on 49th Street N. Investigators said they believe a small white or light colored SUV swerved to avoid her but made contact with her vehicle. Pequeno swerved and drove into the bus stop bench.
