Dade City Motorcyclist Dies in Crash, 3 Others Seriously Injured

The other driver tried to pass a slower vehicle and hit the motorcycle almost head on, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Dade City motorcyclist died Friday (June 22) in a head-on crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Daniel Joseph Reed, 31, of Dade City, died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.Floyd Williamson, 72, the driver of the other vehicle; his passenger, Loretta Williamson, 72, both of Lakeland; and his other passenger, Mary Ann Gutierrez, 48, of Lyons, GA, were all taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The crash happened about 9:48 a.m. on U.S. 98 south of Stanton Hall Drive in Pasco County. Williamson was driving a 2007 Honda pickup truck north on U.S. 98. Troopers said Williamson tried to pass a slower vehicle and drove into the southbound lane where he collided nearly head-on with the 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle that Mr. Reed was driving.

Both the pickup and the bike rotated and came to rest along portions of the northbound lane and east shoulder respectively. Troopers said Mr. Reed was thrown from his motorcycle.
