Dade City Man Charged in U.S. 301 Hit-and-Run Death

Witnesses followed the hit-and-run car and provided the information that led to his arrest, Dade City police said.

DADE CITY – A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash on U.S. 301 that killed a pedestrian, the Dade City Police Department said.

Johnson Frye, Jr., 27, of Dade City, died of injuries he received in the crash. It is unclear if he died at the scene.

Renato Temich Quino, 32, of Dade City, was charged with one count each of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage, Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death, and Driving with No Valid License.

The crash happened about 2:10 this morning (Jan. 12) in the 12000 block of U.S. 301.

Police said Mr. Frye was walking south on the shoulder of U.S. 301 when he was struck by a 2005 Nissan Altima also traveling south. The car was said to have left the right lane and hit Mr. Frye on the shoulder of the road.

The driver fled the scene of the crash without rendering aid; however, witnesses followed the car and led police to Quino’s home.
