He lost control of his car, FHP troopers said.

WESLEY CHAPEL – A Wesley Chapel man died in a crash on Wesley Chapel Boulevard when he lost control of his car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Adam Thomas Gendreau, 24, of Wesley Chapel, died at the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt. No one else was hurt in the crash. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash happened about 7:42 a.m. Thursday (May 2) at the intersection of Wesley Chapel Boulevard and Gateway Boulevard in Hillsborough County.

Troopers said Mr. Gendreau was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla east on Wesley Chapel Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car. The Toyota accelerated and traveled directly at a 2018 Kia Optima that was stopped facing north on Gateway Boulevard in the left turn lane at the intersection.

The Kia tried to drive out of the path of the Toyota but was unsuccessful. The Toyota hit the left rear of the Kia and, troopers said, continued east, hitting several trees and bushes before going into a retention pond.
