Crash Kills Largo Motorcyclist

She hit a pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

CITRUS COUNTY – A Largo motorcyclist died Saturday (Dec. 30) of injuries she received in a traffic crash in Citrus County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Margaret Proffitt, 58, of Largo, died at Citrus Memorial Hospital where she was taken after the crash. Pamela Jane Meade, 58, of Panama City, received minor injuries in the crash. She was not taken to a hospital.

The crash happened about 2:27 p.m. on E Gobbler Drive, approaching Old Floral City Road. Ms. Proffitt was driving a 2016 Honda motorcycle west on E Gobbler when, for unknown reasons, she crossed the centerline while rounding a curve and traveled into the path of an oncoming 2015 Toyota Tacoma driven by John Joseph Meade, 69, of Panama City. The two vehicles collided. The crash was not alcohol related, troopers said.
