Portions of the southbound Skyway were closed for more than two hours after a car overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Two people were taken to the hospital and one driver was cited after a crash Tuesday (Jan. 10) that closed portions of the southbound Sunshine Skyway for more than two hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Meredith J. Killingsworth, 30, of Palmetto, and Thomas R. Will, 25, of St. Petersburg, were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Troopers said Killingsworth was given a ticket for careless driving.

The crash happened about 11:09 a.m. at mile marker 11. Will, who was driving a 2001 Honda CRV, stopped for traffic. Troopers said Killingsworth, who was driving a 2010 Honda Civic, failed to stop and, while trying to change lanes, rear-ended the CRV. The impact pushed the CRV into the outside barrier wall. The CRV then overturned, troopers said.
