Crash Caused by Red Light Runner Kills One, FHP Says

A Tampa man died at the hospital of his injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A Tampa man died early this morning (Jan. 4) of injuries he received in a three-vehicle traffic crash caused when one driver ran a red light, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Dontae Jamal Hill, 25, of Tampa, died at Tampa General Hospital where he was taken after the crash. Johnathan Nicholas Honza, 28, of Brandon, one of the other drivers, was also taken to Tampa General with serious injuries.

The crash happened about 3:23 a.m. at the intersection of Adamo Drive and Falkenburg Road. Troopers said Johnathan Nicholas Honza, 28, of Brandon, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet SS west on Adamo when he ran the traffic light at the intersection. Honza hit the driver’s side of a 2005 Acura TSX driven by Mr. Hill, the FHP said. Debris from the crash hit a 2013 Chevrolet Express driven by Paula D. Whitten, 37, of Tampa. No one in Whitten’s vehicle was injured.
