CLEARWATER – A Clearwater man died this morning (Feb. 23) of injuries he suffered when he was thrown from his motorcycle in a crash on Old Coachman Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Stanley Heath, 66, of Clearwater, died at Mease Countryside Hospital where he was taken after the crash. Another motorcyclist, who overturned to avoid a collision, suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital. Neither motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The crash happened about 9:36 a.m. on Old Coachman Road in Clearwater in PInellas County.

Troopers said Patricia Neal, 85, of Clearwater, was driving a 2014 Kia south on Old Coachman Road when she made a U-turn. The U-turn took her into the path of Mr. Heath who was driving a 1995 motorcycle north on Old Coachman Road.

The motorcycle collided with the front of the Kia and Mr. Heath was thrown from the motorcycle.

A second motorcyclist, who was also headed north on Old Coachman, overturned to avoid a collision and slide into the rear of the Kia, troopers said.

Troopers said charges are pending.
