She lost control of her car when she tried to avoid a collision, FHP troopers say.

SUMTER COUNTY – A Clearwater woman suffered serious injuries and a child sustained minor injuries in a crash Saturday (Nov. 30) on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Christa Dietrich, 41, of Clearwater, was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital in serious condition. Her passenger, 11, was taken to Brooksville Regional with minor injuries. No one else was injured in the crash.

The crash happened about 1:11 p.m. on northbound I-75 at Milepost 320 in Sumter County.

Troopers said an unmarked FHP patrol vehicle, that was traveling north on I-75, slowed as did a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe that was following behind the FHP vehicle. Dietrich, who was driving a 2019 Ford Fiesta behind the Tahoe, did not slow.

Dietrich took evasive action to avoid a collision. She steered to the left and lost control of the Ford, which rotated and hit the left side of the Tahoe, troopers said.

After the impact, the Ford overturned several times and came to rest on its roof in the northbound travel lanes of I-75.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Charges are pending, troopers said.
