Police Tape | Accident | Crime

It appears that he was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of his motorcycle, Pinellas Park police said.

PINELLAS PARK – A Clearwater man died this morning (May 12) after he was hit by a car when he was thrown from his motorcycle, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.

Christopher Mathew Babcock, 22, of Clearwater, died at the scene. Police said a helmet was found at the scene but it is unclear if Mr. Babcock was wearing it.

The crash happened about 4 a.m. in the 12300 block of U.S. 19 N in Pinellas Park.

Officers said it appears Mr. Babcock was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of his 2006 Kawasaki causing him to be thrown off the motorcycle.  A passing motorist stopped and attempted to flag down traffic, however an “unsuspecting” 2011 Ford Mustang GT that was traveling north struck Mr. Babcock.

A 2012 Kia Optima also traveled through the scene striking debris in the roadway just before the Mustang. All parties involved are cooperating with the investigation.

At this time, police said, there are no indications of any criminal acts related to the crash.
