Another collision was caused when a passenger vehicle swerved out of the path of the wrong-way car, FHP troopers said.

PASCO COUNTY – A Clearwater man died in a wrong-way crash on I-75 Wednesday (June 19) when his motorcycle was hit head on by a car traveling south in norhtbound lanes of I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jamie Vasean Johnson, 45, of Clearwater, died at the scene. The other driver, Ellide S. Tamayo, 84, of Tampa, was taken to Advent Health in serious condition. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, troopers said.

The crash happened about 3:34 p.m. on northbound I-75 at about the 274 mile marker in Pasco County.

Troopers said Tamayo was driving a 1994 Lincoln Town Car north on the exit ramp from I-275 to northbound I-75 when he became confused, turned around and began traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-75.

As the Lincoln approached the County Line Road overpass, a passenger vehicle swerved from the path of the Lincoln and collided with a northbound pickup truck, resulting in a minor collision, troopers said.

The Lincoln also swerved from the path of the passenger vehicle and entered the west paved shoulder of the road. At the same time, Mr. Johnson, who was driving a 2012 motorcycle north on I-75, also swerved onto the west paved shoulder.

Once on the shoulder, the motorcycle and Lincoln collided head-on, troopers said.

The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-75 for several hours.

Charges are pending, troopers said.
