He had to be extricated from the SUV he was driving, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

DUNEDIN – A Clearwater man was injured Friday (Jan. 19) when the SUV he was driving overturned after hitting another SUV and a tree, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jessie Myrick, 60, of Clearwater, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. Deputies said he did not appear impaired. They said they believe he suffered a medical emergency.

The crashes happened about on Milwaukee Avenue near the intersection of James Street in Dunedin. Deputies said that an on-duty Largo Police officer who was conducting a follow-up at Mease Dunedin Hospital was parked on Milwaukee Avenue near Virginia Street when he saw a 2010 Dodge Nitro hit an unoccupied 2012 GMC Arcadia parked on Milwaukee Avenue.

The Dodge, which was driven by Myrick, did not stop after the collision and continued south on Milwaukee. The Largo police officer followed the Dodge and activated his emergency lights and
siren in an attempt to stop the SUV.

The Dodge was continuing south towards the intersection of James Street when Myrick lost control, drove off the roadway and struck a tree. Deputies said the collision caused the SUV to rollover and come to final rest on the roof.

Myrick was trapped inside and had to be extricated by paramedics.
