The driver lost control of the car, according to FHP troopers.

HERNANDO COUNTY – Two children were seriously injured in a single-car crash on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver, who is the mother of the three children who were in the car, was cited for careless driving.

Kira Way, 8, and Savanna Cauley, 2, were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in serious condition. Crystal Rodriguez, 42, and Anthony Mahon, 9, were taken to St. Joseph’s with minor injuries. All are from St. Petersburg.

The crash happened about 8:20 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 21) on I-75 at about the 294 milepost in Hernando County.

Troopers said Rodriguez was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra south on I-75 approaching the 294 milepost when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of the car. The Hyundai traveled onto the west shoulder of the road, collided with a tree and overturned.
