Child Injured in Fall from Jeep in Hernando

The 7 year old was not wearing a seat belt or other child restraint, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HERNANDO COUNTY – A child, 7, is in critical condition after falling out of a Jeep on Christmas Day, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ciacinta Zappa of Spring Hill was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured.

The fall happened about 8:41 p.m., troopers said, when Tyler Zappa, 33, was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler on La Rose Road. Zappa hit a bump and Ciacinta, who was in the back seat, was ejected onto the roadway. Troopers said she was not wearing a seat belt or child restraint.

Zappa was cited for careless driving and seat belt violations, troopers said.
