Child, 8, Injured in Tampa Crash

The child ran into the path of an SUV, the Tampa Police Department said.

TAMPA – An 8-year-old boy was injured Tuesday (Feb. 20) morning when he ran into the path of an oncoming SUV, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Shon Smikle, 8, was conscious and breathing at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, including a broken femur and several lacerations.

The crash happened about 7:42 a.m. on Myrtle Street near Serena Drive. Police said Shon ran across Myrtle into the path of a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by Nancy Levy, 60, who was traveling southbound.

Levy was unable to avoid hitting the child and stopped immediately after the crash. Levy was not cited, police said.
